      A Story of Savannen

make ramps not bombs
When I came to Sweden, in the spring of 2004, the weather had just turned sunny and somewhat warm. It was Easter weekend and so it was Holiday. With not much in the way of work to do and with the coming of summer, it was to be the beginning of a new season at Savannen. I did not know much about the place, but I had seen photos of it over the internet before my arrival. This made me believe the locals were cool and had a few things up there sleeve.

stacking bricks
Well there it was upon arrival, skating and piling bricks. With the transitions and parking blocks in place, it was time to pour some fresh concrete. With a short course in mixing mud, we were under way. Three pours later and this would be the end of our Holiday.

A couple months later, we watched the television news from our local hangout, the Chinese restaurant. It was decidedly the end for the neighbors of Savannen who had moved in, making a mess with all there garbage and bad habits, living for free and not even being able to pay there own bills even if they felt fit.
A week later the skatepark park came down, no foresight, news or remorse.

RIP Savannen 2002-2004

The next couple photos are of what has come next. It seems like there is no such thing as stopping momentum. Checkout the Week 22 video for more footage. Peace.
